Create the future you desire – discussion 7

Confidence

To create your dream life you need confidence in yourself and in the universe (God). Confidence makes you a happier person, provides you with the ‘get up and go’ attitude and builds your self-esteem. Doesn’t that sound great? Of course! A lack of it will make you anxious, lacking in energy, fearful, sad and most of all, it will make you believe that you will never accomplish anything of note. Whatever the state of your life at the moment, you CAN change it by using confidence.

My late mother was the most fearful person I have ever come across. She was constantly looking over shoulder in case she was being followed by a potential mugger. She jumped every time the phone rang. A knock at the door would cause her to panic. She never did anything confidently and as a consequence, she lived a pretty miserable existence. She fell prey to bogus water board officials who pushed their way into her home and stole money hidden in her bedroom. She was a sucker for anyone wanting to borrow a pound or two on the promise that they would pay her back – they never did. More worryingly, she needed carers in her final months and one of these ‘carers’ was helping herself to cash from her post office account. My mother lacked the confidence necessary to adequately protect herself. I vowed very early in my life that I was not going to be that sort of person.

So, how do you go about changing your mindset? Baby steps. Look in the mirror each morning and see the person you want to be. Smile and say, ‘I am in control of my life. I look beautiful. I am intelligent. I can achieve anything I want. People are drawn to me because of my confidence. I embrace the day and all that it brings.’ Do this every day before you do anything else. Sit comfortably on a chair or on your bed and take 5 minutes ‘me time’. Close your eyes and be aware of any aches or pains, any tension in your muscles, any negative thoughts. Sit and take long, deep breaths for the 5 minutes. Empty your mind. Be still.

As you go about your daily business, when you start to feel anxious or doubtful, bring your mind back to your morning ‘5 minutes’ and remind yourself that you can have the best day ever. In my next discussion, I will post a link or two to some useful reading on the subject of confidence. Have a productive day friends 🙂
